Biography of Dorothy Malone

Dorothy Eloise Malone, an American film and television actress, was born on January 30, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Soon after her birth, her family moved to Dallas, Texas, where Dorothy attended Highland Park School. From a young age, she worked as a child model and performed in school theater. She later attended Southern Methodist University and, after graduating, signed a contract with RKO Studios. In 1943, she made her film debut in "The Falcon and the Co-Eds". During the early years of her career, Dorothy Malone primarily appeared in Western films, although she also had memorable roles in films such as "The Big Sleep" (1946) and the musical comedy "Artists and Models" (1955).

Acclaim and Later Career

In 1956, Dorothy Malone transformed her image, dying her hair blonde and becoming a "sex bomb". She landed a role in Douglas Sirk's film "Written on the Wind" alongside stars Rock Hudson, Lauren Bacall, and Robert Stack. For her performance, Dorothy Malone won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and was nominated for a Golden Globe award. This success opened doors for more substantial roles. She appeared in films such as "Too Much, Too Soon" with Diana Barrymore, "Man of a Thousand Faces" with James Cagney, and "Warlock" with Henry Fonda and Richard Widmark. She also appeared in another Douglas Sirk project, "The Tarnished Angels", starring Rock Hudson and Robert Stack.

From 1963 onwards, Dorothy Malone began working in television films, mainly for the ABC network. She appeared in series such as "The Greatest Show on Earth" (1964) and "Peyton Place" (1964-1968), for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe award in 1965 and 1966. Unfortunately, during the filming of "Peyton Place", Dorothy Malone was hospitalized with a life-threatening diagnosis of pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, and blood clotting in her lungs. After a serious treatment, she eventually returned to work on the series.

Later Years and Personal Life

Dorothy Malone made her last film appearance in "Basic Instinct" (1992) alongside Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas. After that, she was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Dorothy Malone was married three times. She had two daughters, Mimi and Diane, from her first marriage to French actor Jacques Bergerac (1959-1964). Her subsequent marriages to Robert Tomarkin (1969) and Charles Huston Bell (1971-1974) were also unsuccessful, short-lived, and ended in divorce.
